Long Pine Wood Bench
Sweden, Circa 1955

Description:

A long bench handmade from solid pine in Sweden in the Mid-1950s. The proportions, construction and materials of the design make it very practical. Further, the absence of obvious decoration and other superfluous details mean the piece could be labelled as utilitarian. However, humour and warmth can be discerned, most redolently perhaps from the shape of the legs and the woods colour and expensive grain.
The position of the legs and the thickness of the timber used throughout make the piece stable and strong.

The bench’s slender depth means it could work excellently in a hallway or at the side of a table that doesn’t allow for a deeper seat.
