Pair of Huge Metal Lamps Europe, Late-1940s

Description

A pair of impressively large table lights designed and made in Europe (probably England, Netherlands or Germany) in the late-1940s.
The lamps are made entirely of metal making their material as simple as their purely geometric form. Just six concentric circles and a dome are visible in the design. The concentric circles that create the stepped edge of the foot give the base a reassuring visual weight. Further, the section painted blood-orange helps balance the 45 cm diameter domes in the same vibrant colour. The finish of the paint is distressed but stable and contrasts brilliantly with the clean lines in the design.
