Scandinavian Brutalist Lamp
Uno & Östen Kristiansson, Circa 1966

Description:

A statement table light designed by Swedish brothers Uno & Östen Kristiansson circa 1966 and made by Östen Kristiansson AB around the same date (formery Vittsjö Möbelfabrik and later known as Luxus).
The main body of the lamp is a sculptural solid lump of pine wood. The shapes have been achieved by turning the wood on a lathe. A newly made fabric shade tops the light.
Although the lamp is curvaceous and the edges soft, the scale of the light and the proportions of the shapes used within relate to Brutalist architecture. The amount of wood used in the chunky light visually warms the design as the wood is not only apparent but attractively grained and evenly patinated. Overall, the design is an unusual and unexpected example of Scandinavian Modern meets Brutalism.
The lamp is newly re-wired with a brown coloured fabric covered braided flex. The plug is black as are the in-line switch.
