A rare green leather newspaper carrier designed by Carl Auböck III and made by Werkstätte Carl Auböck, circa 1960.
In every aspect; function, form, construction and colour the newspaper sling is evocative of Vienna and its café culture. With its robustness and practical dark green colour the paper sling would be perfectly at home in the likes of Café Prückel or Café Landtmann.
The holder has been made by folding over and stitching into place a length of thick leather. The subtle details of the piece include a notch on one side of the handle, an incised lined around the entrance of sling and the how the colour of the stitching matches the darker colour of the edges of the leather.
Despite its age, the carrier is in great condition and remains extremely useable -however newspapers’ have an increased propensity for holding their ink these days!
