Leather & Brass Chandelier
Hans-Agne Jakobsson, C. 1965

Description:

A large Hans-Agne Jakobsson pendant light made by AB Markaryd, Sweden, circa 1965.
In shape, the Model T549 light, also named "Carolin”, is related to classic candelabras and early electrical chandeliers. However, the heavy use of leather in the design makes the piece unusual and surprising.
Increasing the leather’s prominence is the construction of the shade. Typical of how quality leather products are made, the segments of leather that create the shade have been stitched together with thick leather cord. All leather aspects are of the same burnt-orange colour.
Underneath the large dome-shaped shade is a three-armed brass frame. Adding interest and visually balancing the weight of the light is a pole that drops 10 centimetres from the bottom of the pendant.
The light is complete with its original brass ceiling rose. Currently the rose sits atop the pole that the light is centred around. However, if wanted in an interior with tall ceilings, the light’s wire can extend beyond the end of the pole and the ceiling rose be fitted to the wire.
In excellent original condition.
