Mouth-Blown Glass Pendant
Italy, Circa 1955

Description:

A vintage mouth-blown glass pendant light designed and made in Italy circa 1955.
The predominant colour of the glass globe is translucent ‘smoke’ (brown/green/grey) a popular choice of colour for glass makers in the mid-20th Century.
Wrapped around the midriff of the smoke globe is a ribbon of opaque red glass which sits on top of white glass.
The expressionistic way in which the glass ribbon has been applied contrasts nicely with the straightforwardness of the geometrical shape of the globe.
The precise place where the ribbon has been applied is also visually satisfying. The opaque ribbon helps sheath some of the glare from the bulb within the light.
The pendant is complete with the original brass fitting which holds the globe as well as the original brass ceiling rose.

Both the edge of the small hole at the top of the globe and larger hole at the bottom show are related wear in the form of chips.
