Solid Mahogany Bookcases
Britain, 1950s

£6,200

Description:

A pair of unique British, solid mahogany bookcases, made in the late-1950s.

An incredible amount of attention to detail has been paid to the construction of these bookcases, which bolt together. Particularly, in the incised moulding design throughout the front of the wooden planks - geometric and classic.

With laminated oak ply backing, the pair are rigid and display no structural defects. This is aided by the fixed static shelves with a range of heights.

Overall the warm tone of the wood is beautiful, with no aesthetic flaws.

The astoundingly generous use of solid mahogany used through strongly suggests that these bookcases were a bespoke commission, perhaps from a grand Georgian house needing additional modern shelving.
