Diamond & Chevron Tapestry
Red & Green
Marta Måås Fjetterström
Description:
A vintage handwoven textile designed by Marta Måås Fjetterström and made by her workshop in Båstad, Sweden, around 1950.
The tapestry features geometric diamond and chevron shapes throughout. At first sight these appear to be arranged symmetrically but slight quirks become apparent on closer inspection. The colour organisation adds further interest and whimsy to the textile's design.
The ground of the piece is in a natural linen colour, woven into this are colours of white, green, blue, red and dark-burgundy-brown.
The wool and linen are in excellent original condition. The naturally dyed fibres are still vibrant in colour and retain a sheen from the organic oily fats in the wool.
Signed AB MMF denoting the piece was woven after Måås Fjetterström passed in 1941.
