Oregon Pine & Brass Desk
Denmark, 1960s
Description:
A well proportioned vintage desk made in Denmark, circa 1960.
The main feature of this desk is the contrast between the plainer quarter-cut solid pine of the table top and drawer fronts, with the tiger-stripe crown-cut timber used in the rest of the construction. The crown-cut pine forming the majority of the desk is of deep tan and a rich brown, and displays the characteristic rich knots of pine wood beautifully. The quarter-cut wood of the flat surfaces tones down the organic detail. The interplay between the two has the result of the top appearing almost buoyant, and conveniently allows for fewer distractions whilst at work.
The three drawers run the full depth of the desk, and are faced with original demi-lune pulls in solid brass. These match the wonderfully chunky brass hardware displayed on the sides.
