Sculptural Horn Letter Opener
Carl Auböck II
$560
Description:
A vintage horn letter opener, model #4727, designed and made by Carl Auböck II, Vienna, in the 1950s. The biomorphic shape of the horn reveals the piece as Modernist design of the mid-twentieth century. Further, the elongated shard-like form, reminiscent of a Constantin Brancusi bird, can be viewed as a miniature sculpture. A leather strap tied into a knot passes through a circular hole at one end of the letter opener. This allows the opener to be picked up from a flat surface with speed and ease. A rare design from the Viennese werkstätte made unique by the grain and colour of the Hungarian cow horn, this piece is in excellent usable condition.
