Set of Six Leggera Dining Chairs Giò Ponti
Description
'Leggera' is the second prototype designed by Gio' Ponti for Cassina in 1951 in the project that lead then to 'Superleggera'. Main inspiration for this design is the 'Chiavarina', a wooden chair with caning seating typical of the local craftsmen tradition of Liguria. Giò Ponti took the already essential and slender shape of the Chiavari's chair and updated it in light of the post-war new technology with the challenge of creating a strong, affordable, minimal but still expressive design. The Italian designer wrote about this project 'the more minimal the shape, the more expressive the shape becomes'.
The set consists of six chairs in ash upholstered in a rough linen textured fabric in an Atlantic blue color with a slight teal undertone.
