An infamous hotel commissioned by the Communist government in former Czechoslovakia with an almost unlimited budget. The Hotel Praha was a colossal, curved building, with 136 rooms, a restaurant, swimming pool, and even a bowling alley. A hotel that needed more staff than guests to run.
Amidst a backdrop of austerity in the years prior to the Velvet Revolution, the Hotel Praha was a sprawling architectural spectacle, with rooms of tiled walls, tubular glass chandeliers, and monumental leather furniture. The rooms and lounges of the Hotel Praha entertained guests until 2014, when the Hotel was bought, demolished, and its design legacy scattered.
Each piece has a story to tell about this lost Modernist masterpiece, its outstandingly ornate interiors, and its uneasy political legacy.
