Set of Six No.17's Michael Thonet

Description

A set of six beech wood model 17 chairs designed circa 1860 by Micheal Thonet. The chairs feature generously sized handwoven cane seats and high backs which provide comfort and give lightness to the design.
The most eye-catching yet sophisticated detail is the interplay of rounded shapes in the back -especially the sumptuous circle of bent wood at the top. All chairs in this set were made circa 1900 and have always been together.
The bumps and knocks commensurate with age have given the chairs incredible character.
However, what is perhaps most fabulous about this set is that even at 120+ years old they are still robust and comfortable enough to use everyday.
