Description:

A Domus Table, designed by by Ilmari Tapiovaara, in 1946, for the Helsinki student housing complex Domus Academica. Purpose-built in 1947–5, the original interior of Domma’s dormitories also included cabinets with a drawer that could be used as a tray, and beds which could be turned into sofas.
Only a small quantity of this desk were made as the design did not go into commercial production. Therefore, the piece is rare but also, thanks to its materials, construction and proportions, extremely usable.
The frame and screw-in legs are made from solid birch whilst the top is inlayed with a warm burnt-orange-brown linoleum.
In very good vintage condition.
