Eccentric Long Handled
Magnifying Glass
Carl Auböck

Description:

An extremely rare and charmingly eccentric oversized handled magnifying glass designed and by Carl Auböck II, Circa 1950.
The body of the object is carved from solid Brazilian rosewood. A large hole for the fisheye magnifying glass has been cut out from one end and a small hole for the tan leather strap drilled at the other. Between these two is the elaborately long handle which has been bound in enough wicker to accommodate two hands. Each shape and material used in the design is seemingly simple. Although the way in which the elements come together, most specifically regards their proportions, results in an object that exudes quality -through consideration and craftspersonship. The patination on the rosewood, cane and leather is beautifully warm and even. Although rare and collectable, this item is completely usable. In excellent condition, only a small amount of scratches on the glass to report.
