Oak Dining Table & Six Chairs
Hans Wegner, 1960s
Description:
A fully oak dining table and six chairs with woven raffia seats designed by Danish architect and furniture designer, Hans Wegner, during the 1960s. The table, which comfortably seats six, was made by master cabinet maker, Andreas Tuck during the 1960s. The set of six chairs, consist of four regular dining chair and two carvers produced by Carl Hansen, also during the 1960s.
When asked of his design process, Wegner described it as one of 'purification and simplification– to cut down to the simplest possible design of four legs, a seat, and a combined back- and armrest.' This conviction is reflected in this dining set; simply designed, with rounded edges throughout, a detail of quiet softness which is echoed in the curved seat back and subtle flared arms of the carvers which are also adorned with small wooden roundels, acknowledging the construction which connects the arms to the body of the chair.
The seats of the dining set are constructed from woven raffia, a practical and aesthetic choice that, whilst being incredibly comfortable, also imbues the dining set with an organic softness.
The chairs and table from this set are also available to be purchased separately.
