Model 4400 Settee A. Bender Madsen & E. Larsen
Description
A two seat model 4400 settee designed by Aksel Bender Madsen and Ejner Larsen in 1952 and made by Master cabinetmaker Willy Beck, Denmark, around the same year. The sofa stands on four tapered beech wood legs and is complete with sprung cushions.
Although angular in shape and petite in size this sofa is not only comfortable to sit in but adds softness and warmth to a room.
The slender frame of the settee, the subtlety of the multitude of angles and how well the fabric works with this design is indicative of the training of Larsen and Bender Madsen. Who, respectively, first trained as an upholsterer and cabinetmaker before studying furniture design. The furniture the duo designed for the cabinet maker Willy Beck, over the 25 years the three gentlemen collaborated, is considered to be their finest work.
