Tan Leather Jug
& Glasses
by Carl Auböck
Description
A vintage jug and glasses set designed and made by Carl Auböck II, Vienna, circa 1950.
Each piece in the set is made of handblown glass with a very high lead content which gives the glass brilliance, weight and a better resilience.
All the glasses are bound with a band of tan-coloured leather sown together with black stitching. The pitcher is clad with a larger band of the same leather which extends past the body of the jug to form a handle.
The marriage of the materials and shapes in the design are at the same time ‘grown-up’ and whimsical.
The jug shows age related wear but the set is in overall excellent vintage condition.
