“Tuberkulinkolben” Vase #4748 Carl Auböck
Description
A vintage squashed-sphere shaped glass vase, carafe or “Tuberkulinkolben” designed and made by Carl Auböck II, Vienna, circa 1950. The vase is model number 4748 in the Werkstätte Carl Auböck catalogue and was made to order with either a black leather, tan leather or, as we see here, wicker collar. The band of wicker has been tightly woven.
The mouth blown glass has a very high lead content which gives the glass brilliance, weight and a better resilience. Glass body and leather collar are both in excellent condition. This is still an incredibly sophisticated and usable object -yellow Craspedia flowers would look brilliant in this vase.
