Wine Cradle with Cane Handle
Carl Auböck II, 1950s
Description:
A brass bottle-holder with woven cane handle, designed by Carl Auböck II during the 1950s.
This is a functional, spare design, created by a single fluid line of brass; a simplicity synonymous with the 2nd Carl Auböck and indicative of his time spent at the Bauhaus.
This device is intended to hold a bottle of wine in a way that helps the wine aerate and the sediment settle. Aeration is helped as the angle that the bottle is held in increases the surface area of the liquid inside. It is also the angle, approximately 20-Degree, that encourages the sediment in wine to settle and remain in the heel of the bottle.
The patination on both the brass and rattan is even and warm looking.
