About

Sigmar is an interior design practice and gallery dedicated to original modernist furniture from Scandinavia and Central Europe. Founded in London in 2005 by furniture specialist Nina Hertig (DK) and designer Ebba Thott (SE), the studio was established to advance a holistic approach to the spaces we inhabit.

Since its inception, Sigmar has engaged in a carefully curated selection of collaborations, developing contemporary works that honour traditional methods of production and reflect the studio’s enduring commitment to integrity in design and uncompromising craftsmanship.

Central to Sigmar’s philosophy is a deep engagement with vintage furniture as a sustainable design solution. By sourcing, restoring, and recontextualising original pieces, the studio champions longevity, material intelligence, and responsible consumption. This approach positions vintage not as a nostalgic gesture, but as a forward-looking practice—one that aligns environmental responsibility with enduring aesthetic value and thoughtful living.

Underpinning this work is an intimate knowledge of historic furniture and its makers, developed through decades of hands-on experience working directly with original pieces. This sustained engagement—handling, researching, restoring, and placing works in both private and public contexts—allows Sigmar to approach each project with a rare depth of understanding, ensuring that every piece is considered not only for its aesthetic qualities, but for its provenance, construction, and lasting relevance.
