Set of 6 Kamin Chairs
Tage Poulsen, Denmark, 1970s
Description:
A set of 6 pine dining chairs with Danish cord seats made during the late 1970s- early 1980s by Danish cabinetmaker, Gramrode Møbelfabrik, and designed by Tage Poulsen.
A simple design, well considered, with wide, corded seats and angular armrests. This set of 6 dining chairs was designed by Danish designer, Tage Poulsen for Gramrode Møbelfabrik during the 1970s.
Poulsen concisely articulated his design philosophy when he said; “Decoration for decoration’s sake is far from our needs and dreams”. Whilst functional at their heart, the backrests of these dining chairs are subtly decorative in their dedication to functionality. The four bands of pine have been placed in a such way that the grain almost mirrors its neighbouring panel. A feature that is both pleasing to look at and augments the strength of the backrest.
All the chairs are in good vintage condition. Whilst measuring these chairs, we noticed that one chair is slightly different in dimensions to the rest of the group. The chair also has a slightly different backrest. This chair is shown separately in the last two images of this listing, marked with a "*". When seated around a table, this level of variation is barely visible.
The seats have all recently been rewoven with Danish cord in the same style as the original seats.
