Yellow Stoneware
Table Lamp #1
Nils Kähler, Denmark
1960s
Description:
A stoneware table lamp designed by Nils Kähler for Herman A. Kähler Keramik, the family workshop founded by his great grandfather in 1839 and which he, "the young Kahler", took over in 1940 with his brother, Herman Jørgen Kähler, in 1940.
Designed by Nils Kahler, this base of this piece is covered by a vivid yellow glaze, an ocher tending to a Naples yellow. Incised into this yellow ground, a gentle, rippling border encircles the rotund base of this round lamp.
This balance of glazed and unglazed areas is typical of Kahler table lamps from this period, and can also be seen on a similar table lamp here.
The lamp has been fully rewired with a UK standard plug and black, antique-style electrical cord. The lamp also includes a lightly textured cotton-linen blend lampshade.
Measurements refer to the diameter of the lamp base without shade.
