"Glove" Vase #3788
Werkstätte Carl Auböck

£720

Description:

Designed by Carl Auböck IV, this five-spouted vase is made of solid sand cast brass, handmade by the Werkstätte foundry.

Playing with its own creation, this vase takes the form of Carl IV's left hand. The palm is finely finished and is a veristic recollection, with attention paid to the wrinkles of his skin, and musculature. On the reverse however, the form is abstracted, with joints swelled and blurred. The back of the hand more closely resembles that of a protective glove used within the studio itself. Within this object therefore, is both the man and the maker.

As Daphne in the Greek myth, foliage sprouts from the fingertips.
