Bullicante Summerso Green Glass
Bud Vase
Finland, 1950s
£400
Description:
A green bullicante sommerso hand-blown glass bud vase, possibly made in Finland in the 1950s.
This vase combines two celebrated glassmaking techniques. Bullicante, meaning "boiling" in Italian, creates a precise grid of trapped air bubbles using a mould with small spikes, while sommerso ("submerged") encases the coloured glass and bubbles within a layer of clear glass.
The result is a luminous volume of emerald green, suspended within crystal-clear glass and studded by a constellation of glistening bubbles.
