Crown Ashtray
Carl Auböck
Description
Polished brass ashtray in solid brass designed and made in the Auböck Werkstätte, Vienna, circa 1950.
The ashtray is cast in the shape of a crown and is part of a series of objects made during the first decade of cold war inspired to British club life. The latter was a stile at the time quite popular in Western Europe and Western Germany, where some of the pieces designed by the Auböck workshop were made for a period by Artes. This piece has been made in Austria though, and is infact marked with the Aubock stamp and 'Made in Austria' on the bottom. In overall excellent condition.
