Leather Bookend #4587
Carl Auböck II, 1950s
£750
Description:
A hand-stitched, black leather bookend designed by Carl Auböck II during the 1950s.
This simple, angular bookend is constructed from a sheet of metal encased in a highly polished black leather. The leather is hand-stitched with pale thread which is in very good condition.
The elevated functionalism of this piece is typical of the designs of the 2nd Carl Auböck, who spent time learning at the Bauhaus and brought fresh, innovative design ideas to the workshop during the mid-20th century; a simple, playful, and ultimately material-led approach to production which still persists in the designs of the workshop today.
