Parkbänk Nr. 3
An original Nr. 3 Parkbänk designed by Folke Bensow for Näfveqvarns Bruk in the 1920s.
The cast iron ends to the bench show fine craftsmanship, with their design pulling away from their heavy medium. The lower half is decoratively braced with a star or sun medallion, visually balancing the lower with the upper half. The lively curves and acute angles of the bench-ends are unruly; this however, is contrasted with the original and beautifully silvered planks of solid oak. These have decorative considerations in the construction of the metal ends, which have oval rests designed into their framework.
The design typifies Nordic Classicism, better known as Swedish Grace. Clearly taking inspiration from organic shapes and a sense of movement seen on the Continent, this bench remains remarkably Nordic in sensibility.
